Superintendent's Message

Dear Lancer Parents & Students,

On behalf of the Edinburgh Community School Board, administration, faculty, and staff we would like to welcome back our students and families. We are so excited to have your student back on campus in a few days! The first day of school will be on Wednesday, July 28, 2021. Open Houses are on July 26, 2021, from 5-6 PM at the Middle/High School and from 5:30-6:30 PM at Eastside Elementary School. We hope to see you on campus Monday evening!

Please allow me to officially introduce myself. My name is Ron Ross. This is my first superintendency. Previously, I taught for 6 years, and this will be my 10th year of administration. I have wanted to be a superintendent since I was 17 years old. I grew up in Liberty, IN and have lived there most of my life. It is a very similar community to Edinburgh in size and demographics. I moved here in early June and immediately felt at home. My father worked in manufacturing, and my mother is a support staff member at the elementary school in Liberty. I grew up in a house that valued education and hard work. I am very excited to be the superintendent at Edinburgh Community Schools. In my career I have come to value relationships with students and families. We are all in this together trying to figure out how to best serve our students! I consider myself blessed to serve alongside you and I look forward to working with each of you as we strive to achieve the goals that we have set forth for all of the students of Edinburgh Community Schools.

Every start to a new school year is exciting. It is full of hope and optimism about what the new year will bring. This year may have more hope and optimism than any previous year as we begin to transition into our new normal! Our administrators, teachers, and staff continued to work diligently throughout the summer to address learning loss from the Pandemic and find new and innovative ways to best support your student. Our top priority has been and will continue to be maintaining a safe environment for your student and ensure that learning can occur in person!

Please find our COVID-19 Protocols on our webpage. The following is a brief summary of the changes. Masks are optional except on buses due to a federal mandate. Social distancing of 3 feet or greater is strongly encouraged. There are no current restrictions on large group gatherings. Vaccinations are NOT required for staff or students, but the Johnson County Health Department does encourage that everyone 12 and up receive the vaccination. Contact tracing has been reduced to within 3 feet or less for 15 minutes or longer. If someone is vaccinated and a close contact, they do not have to quarantine unless they are demonstrating symptoms. The quarantine period has been reduced to 10 days. This will hopefully allow us to resume activities that have been long standing traditions at ECSC. We will continually monitor all guidance from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and all state and local health agencies to make sure that we are doing what is necessary to keep everyone safe.

Our wonderful team of educators have worked to develop plans to identify students who need extra support and provide additional assistance as needed. It is our belief that students learn best in the classroom receiving in person instruction from their teachers and support staff. We are living in unprecedented times and realize that some families may have needs that require students to attend virtually. We have plans in place to support these students and families on a case-by-case basis.

We value and appreciate the meaningful relationships that we have with our students, families, and the Edinburgh Community. We are looking forward to strengthening and expanding those relationships during the upcoming school year to provide the best opportunities for our students!

We are so excited to welcome everyone back to our campuses for the 2021-22 school year!

Yours in education,

Ron Ross, Superintendent
